The Small Grants – Businesses fund has been established to support business growth and expansion in East Cornwall. Projects will be supported that develop micro businesses and social enterprises,particularly those related to tourism, primary products and the development of local sustainable supply chains for food, crafts and energy.

West Cornwall Local Action Group Small Grants for micro businesses and social enterprises

 

The grant scheme operates a grant of between 1,000 and 15,000 and at a grant rate maximum of 50% of eligible costs.  The scheme aims to meet the objectives of the West Cornwall Local Action Group, including, the stimulation of rural innovation and enterprise, to support activities related to the land, development of cooperatives and social enterprises, and the development of links between rural tourism and products and services.

 

The grant scheme is open to new or developing businesses with less than ten employees, turnover of less than £1.7million, and to have the cash flow to finance the project.

The scheme will be reviewed in February 2011 and these criteria may be changed please check our website or call.

Strategy Priorities :-

 Our strategy indicates that the following type of business priorities:-

Land based

Farming families

Isolated village stores

Links in the supply chain for rural sustainable tourism

 

The streamlined grant process is as follows:-

  1. The enquiry about a grant will be made on the website or directly with the Local Action Manager to check eligibility.  Please call.
  2.  

  3. If the project and the applicant are eligible then they are sent an application form.  This form must be completed to explain the project and costs.   You can see a copy of the application guidance notes or download here.  Application Guidance Notes Small Grant Business

  5. The Grant Panel will meet every six weeks to take the decisions on the grants for each application put before them.  The decision will be sent to the applicant.  This is a competitive process and there is a limited pot for this grant aid.

Projects must start spending their grant within 6 months of the grant approval or grant will be withdrawn.

Support is available for activities

Activity to start up a new business or to grow an existing business where is meets the priorities and  objectives of the West Cornwall Local Action Group

  • Cost of capital investment
  • Start-up revenue costs
  • Feasibility studies
  • Marketing support, product development, branding, design costs
  • Skills acquisition, bespoke training and mentoring support
  • Technical support for establishment of new businesses and existing businesses to consolidate/expand.

 

Priority

 

  • Social enterprises
  • Small businesses - below the VAT threshold

Land based, farming families, isolated village stores, links in the supply chain for rural sustainable tourism.

 

Activities not included in this grant scheme

Grant is not available for the continuation of existing activities, vehicles, standard office computers and office software and actions to meet Health and Safety or other statutory requirements.

Grant is not available for projects or businesses that can get aid from elsewhere.

Investment should not cause displacement of trade from another area or company.
